What motivates you to do what you do?

That’s a hard question to answer.

The truth is that it’s not one thing. It’s not even one thing for all of one day.

Your environment drives your motivation. Your body, the people you are with, and what’s going on around you all impact your motivation.

They distract you from the things that you really want to be doing.

Some of that distraction is from bad choices you’ve made in the past.

You’ve put yourself in a situation where it’s extra difficult to stay focused on your future.

Now you’re left scrambling to figure out how to survive the mess you’ve put yourself in.

It’s not just bad choices that distract you from being awesome.

Sometimes the biggest distraction is your lack of direction.

You don’t know where you want to go and not really sure what you’re willing to do to figure it out.

So you spin in circles, staying busy, and expending energy without doing things that actually matter.

You won’t be motivated living your life like that.

You’ll find yourself becoming the person who’s moody, depressed, and always griping about other people not understanding what you’re going through.

You’re completely distracted from being awesome.

Staying motivated starts with you being aware of all the choices you have, the emotions you feel, the pressures you are under — and making the choice to stay on course moment-by-moment as your environment changes.

You don’t ignore problems. You just move around them.

You aren’t clueless about negative people and bad things. You just avoid him.

Motivation is a choice.

Inspiration is a reward. You have to work for it and fight to keep it.

Which is why being aware of your motivation matters so much.

You have the same amount of time and talents as everyone else.

It’s how you use it that matters.
