Do you have the drawer or cabinet full of products that you just had to buy, used once and never used again? The cosmetic graveyard is real, I’m sure you see yours daily.

With the amount of advertising we are exposed to it is increasingly getting harder to know who to listen to. When it comes to skincare a trip to any retail store is overwhelming to say the least. Isle after isle of products screaming choose me! I am the best and will make you look like the celebrity who is our spokesperson. As much as I would love to say their is one product out there for what your skin needs, there really isn’t. There are so many factors that play into why your skin is healthy or not so healthy. Your skin is your largest organ and needs to be fed like everything inside your skin. You truly are what you eat. Your body uses the nutrition from food to build you at the cellular level. Are you eating anti inflammatory foods full of vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants, good fats, protein and healthy carbs, or are you eating processed fast food, drinking soda or worse yet diet soda, and grabbing candy bars, donuts and all things sugar to get you through the day?

Your skin allows your body to purge toxins through your pores and sweat glands. If you eat greasy food guess what your skin more than likely will also be greasy. What does grease do to a sink drain? Clogs it right? Why would you think it is doing anything different in your body?  There is not 1 skin care regimen, surgery, injectable or even makeup that can fix bad eating habits. Processed foods will interrupt your hormones, circulation, mess with your thyroid, create mass inflammation and so much more. All of this will show in your skin, hair, nails and how you feel.

Yes if you have a great skin care regimen that you are on point with you can mask some of the issues but it is a bandaid on a gaping wound. The first step to truly healthy skin is a healthy relationship with food. This relationship will let your body work as it was designed and this will let your skin show it’s true state, Are you naturally oily, dry, sensitive, have rosacea …. all of this will be known when your skin is not in reactionary mode from an unhealthy body.

Once you know your true state of skin you will know exactly what you need to care for your skin and that eliminates the graveyard. Please know I understand this whole concept is very easy to understand but not as easy to implement and stay consistent with. My nickname is the carb queen, bread, pasta and rice… yes please! It wasn’t until my 30’s that I really truly embraced living a healthy lifestyle and really being on top of my relationship with food. Living healthy does not mean you can’t eat comfort food, dessert or your favorite burger and fries, it means those foods are once in awhile not everyday every meal.

This is not the first time you have heard this advice. With a new year that is the gateway for a new decade, I ask you this. In 2025 in 2030 what will your life look like if you keep living the way you are today?

You have the pen to your story, choose to write a healthy happy life. Choose to make some hard decisions now so you can live the rest of your life living as most chose not to.

Until next time, Carpe Diem!!!

Hi my name is Frances Esters I currently reside in the small town of Templeton, CA a wonderful change from where I grew up in San Jose, CA the heart of Silicon Valley. Moving away from the busy city environment made me realize how important it is to really embrace self care. More often than not we only take a deep breath to deal with a stressful moment, not to be cognizant of our surroundings and our body. Stress takes a horrible toll on every part of our body and life. Although stress and all that is caused by it is becoming more and more of a conversation, simple practical ways to take care of ourselves is not. My hope is that by sharing lessons that I have learned through working in the beauty, health and wellness industry, the school of hard knocks and by wonderful people who have come into my life that you realize that’s even though work life balance looks completely different for each of us, we are all striving to be healthy, wealthy and wise. Thank you for joining me and this wonderful community on this adventure we call life.
