Today on Getting Social with Miriam, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the most influential moms around, Kay Ledson out of Melbourne, Australia. Her story is very moving and she is an example of tapping into one’s strength.
Kay worked in financial services in senior management positions for most of her working life, so she was ill prepared for her son Josh’s accident June 25th 2000. One thing she did have on her side was she had worked through several injuries with Josh over the years through his passion for “pushing the envelope” with whatever he did. She knew he had a strong mind, and had recovered from many broken bones. He was into elite punishing sports and knew his body really well. What she wasn’t prepared for was the lack of support from Josh’s medical team. She realized that first night that it was up to her to find the way to help Josh get his life back, and she had to do whatever it took to help him.
The morning after the accident, she and anyone that visited stimulated / massaged Josh’s toe and finger tips, hands and feet for hours each day. She consulted with their chiropractor, who was smuggled into Josh’s hospital room, he began adjusting Josh the first week after his accident. Over a few weeks, Kay built a team that would teach Josh visualization, meditation, therapists for crystal healing, chakra alignment, reflexology, and acupuncture. All were smuggled into the hospital. Her motto was simple, keep energy flowing, keep Josh fit and focused, if Josh can’t use it we will use it for him, never give up. It made sense to everyone to make sure that Josh’s body was in alignment, so that was everyone’s objective.
In 2012 Kay established Warrior Momz which utilizes social media to support families struggling with this horrific life changing injury.
