Life Hurts God Heals
Finding God through our brokenness.
It’s doubtful that anyone would disagree with the following statement – Our world is broken. It doesn’t matter if we follow Jesus or reject the idea of God’s existence. All of us find ourselves scraping against the broken pieces of life at different times. We walk away from those painful moments with deep wounds – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Healing often seems like a long and difficult, if not downright impossible road to walk. It’s much easier to find a means of medicating rather than face it. But as many find, avoidance only leads us deeper into brokenness. Is real healing available to us? If so, how?
Many centuries ago, a man named Brother Lawrence knew something about pain. Born into poverty, he joined the military, just so he could eat. Out of a desire to survive, he endured the horrors of war and sustained the wounds it inevitably delivers. Yet later in his life he wrote, “The difficulties of life do not have to be unbearable. It is the way we look at them… We must be convinced that our Father is full of love for us and that He only permits trials to come our way for our own good.” Brother Lawrence found healing by constantly seeking to “recognize GOD intimately present with us.” This path was not only for Him. It’s the path for us all.
Those who follow Jesus might acknowledge this to be true with our mouth, it’s often difficult to experience as reality in our daily lives. It takes intentionality. Yes, what Brother Lawrence discovered is available to all of us…IF…we’re willing to walk the path. We must do what this simple man called “practicing the presence of God.” We must go beyond learning religious ideals and doctrines, and pursue awareness of God’s constant, loving presence, moment by moment. We desperately need God’s completeness to overwhelm our incompleteness. This is how we become whole – mind, body, and spirit.
The journey is not easy. There are plenty of missteps along the way. What always helps is walking with those who seek the same path. That’s what Life Hurts God Heals is all about. We invite you to join us along the way.
